You're completely right. And once we realize that originality is about combining stuff that already exists, I think a lot of the pressure associated with creating or to "being a creative genious" is attenuated. It definitely takes a lot of work and may not be for everyone, but as you said, "the trick is to spend time there, in the frontier, trying out combinations".
